Brownwood News – Gilbert Contreras, 54 years old of Early, pled guilty in the 35th Judicial District Court on Tuesday, April 25th, for indecency with a child by exposure. Contreras was sentenced to 10 years of deferred adjudication for the crime in exchange for his plea.
On Monday, November 28, 2016, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gilbert Contreras for Indecency with a Child/Sexual Contact. Contreras was released from the Brown County Jail on a $20,000 bond. The indictment occurred after an outcry involving an incident in 2008 in which Contreras was accused of sexual contact with a girl, who he knew, was under the age of 17.
Contreras potentially faced a maximum of 10 years in prison. Instead, he was sentenced to probation and will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years after he completes the requirements of probation.
Contreras has also been indicted for Driving While Intoxicated in Taylor County. That case is currently pending.
