ConawayHeadshotThe Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their next monthly luncheon on Friday, April 18th featuring guest speaker Congressman Mike Conaway.

The luncheon will be held at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 AM – 1 PM and is open to Chamber members and guests.  The luncheon will include door prizes, introduction of new members and the “Aces Wild” Cash Drawing—which features a guaranteed winner each month.

Congressman Mike Conaway is currently serving his fifth term representing the 11th congressional district of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

A CPA for more than 30 years, Congressman Conaway knows firsthand the burdens that excessive regulations and high taxes place on small businesses, and he is working to help small business owners by reducing regulations and reforming the tax code.

A conservative Republican, Rep. Conaway believes in the principles of lower taxes, smaller government and a secure nation. A veteran of the United States Army, the congressman believes in a strong and prepared military and serves on the House Armed Services Committee and as the chairman of the House Select Permanent Committee on Intelligence’s Subcommittee on Terrorism, Human Intelligence, Analysis and Counterintelligence.

In Congress, Rep. Conaway serves as the chairman of the House Ethics Committee. He is also a leader on agriculture issues, fighting for the American farmer and rancher as the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management.

Congressman Conaway has long believed in the values of public service. Throughout his seven-year tenure as a Bush appointee to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, he worked closely with the Texas legislature and federal and local officials. He serves as a board member of the Texas Society of CPAs and is the immediate past chairman of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy.

He grew up in Odessa, Texas, graduating from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1970 with a degree in accounting. He and his wife, Suzanne, live in Midland and have four children and seven grandchildren.

This month’s luncheon is sponsored by Weldon Wilson Electric.   Door prizes will be provided by Baird Brothers Express Car Wash, Dumas Portraits, Holiday Inn Express and MAK Images.
