flagdayThe Brownwood area will remember September 11, 2001 on Tuesday with several ceremonies and observances on Patriots’ Day.  Many of these ceremonies will remember and recognize the contribution of first responders.

-The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies and Men’s Auxiliaries will observe the anniversary of the attack on America, 9/11 on Tuesday at 7:00 AM at the VFW Post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin.  The Post will once again host the county’s first responders with a breakfast served from 5:00-8:00 AM.  The Post has invited all law enforcement, fire departments, and EMS personnel to attend.  The public is invited to attend the prayer observance at 7:00am.

-A first responders’ pancake breakfast from 8-10am will be hosted by CARE Nursing and Rehab in a come and go format at their facility at 200 County Road 616.

-The Salvation Army Service Center will co-sponsor a 9/11 remembrance program with the Woodmen of the World at 8:15am which will be held at the Salvation Army building at 403 Lakeway Drive.  This program will feature the dedication of a new flag pole to the Salvation Army from Woodman of the World Life Insurance Society Lodge #45.  The event will be opened in prayer by Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes.  A special flag with names of first responders who lost their lives that day will be raised on the new flag pole.  The public is invited to attend this ceremony.

-The City of Brownwood will also open their city council meeting on Tuesday with a short ceremony to commemorate 9/11.  The ceremony will be led by the Fire and Police Honor Guard who will present the colors; give the Pledge of Allegiance; and Invocation will be given by the Fire Department Chaplain.  Mayor Stephen Haynes will also read a proclamation for Emergency Preparedness Month.
