Child advocacy agencies from across Brown County participated in the “Shower the Rainbow Room” event on Saturday at Heartland Mall. The event was not only a fundraiser for the Rainbow Room, but a public awareness event to help get information to the public in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Volunteers shared information and sold Raindrops for $1 to raise funds for the Rainbow Room.
The Rainbow Room is located inside the CPS Office at 2400 Crockett Drive in Brownwood and serves an emergency resource room that stocks items such as diapers, formula, car seats, clothing, lice shampoo and other necessities for caseworkers who help families in need with the most basic necessities. This often helps keep families together through traumatic times and can be equally critical in developing a helping relationship between caseworkers and the families they serve.
Posters were on display during the event created by children in Brown County to help get the child abuse prevention message out to the public. Awards were given in the poster contest for honorable mentions as well as first and second place by age group (see winner list below).
