Residents from across Brown County donated hundreds of cards of support to Navy Medic Cody Williams who was recently injured while serving in Afghanistan.
The Military and Family Support Committee of the VFW Post 3278 Ladies Auxiliary and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce worked for the past three weeks collecting cards for Cody and his family to show the community’s support.
Joyce Leidig, chairperson for the Ladies Auxiliary Military and Family Support Committee, said that around 400 cards were collected in a drop box at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We appreciate the community showing support to our military,” Leidig said. “Sending a card of support is a simple task, but can mean so much to someone serving our country.”
Leidig said that many businesses, schools, daycare centers, churches, organizations, and individuals helped to make and sign cards for Cody. The cards were mailed to Cody in San Diego on Monday.
Cody graduated from Brownwood High School in 2004 and joined the Navy after graduation. He served two tours in Iraq prior to deployment to Afghanistan. Cody’s parents Cloy and Jeana Williams and sister Tessa Anderson still reside in Brownwood.
