Organizers, sponsors and participants of the Brownwood/Brown County National Night Out event that was held in October were recognized for their selection as a national award recipient.

Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes presented to award to the organizers of the event at Tuesday, Brownwood City Council meeting.

National Association of Town Watch (NATW), notified organizers last month that the Brownwood/Brown County National Night Out (NNO) event was selected as a National Award Winner for its outstanding participation in the “30th Anniversary National Night Out” (NNO) crime, drug and violence prevention program held on October 1st.

Brownwood Chief of Police Mike Corley was very proud of the local NNO event receiving another award.  In the 15,000-49,999 population category, Brownwood placed 22nd out of 275 award entries.

“As you might recall, in 2010, we won a rookie of the year award.  In 2011, we placed at #42 in Category 4.  Last year, we placed at #27.  So every year, we have improved our ranking,” said Corley.  “I think that says a lot for all of our partners and the entire Brown County community.”

The area is already making plans for National Night Out for the fifth year in a row in October 2014.

All NNO 2013 Award Winners are posted on the National Night Out website.
