A community-wide candlelight worship service was held on Tuesday evening at the Depot Plaza to pray for those who serve and protect.

The service included Christmas music, scripture reading, lighting of candles and prayers for active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement, fire & rescue and EMT, those who put their lives on the line every day.  Prayer cards were available for those attending to have someone who serves prayed for by name.

Community heroes representing the military, firefighters, law enforcement and veterans posted the colors.

Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes prayed for government officials of all nations and local officials.  Chaplain Jim Looby, US Navy Retired, prayed for those who protect and serve.

“It is important that we never forget the Gold Star families and their sacrifices, but we must also remember those in law enforcement and emergency services who put their lives at risk for our safety each day,” said Looby.

The service included scripture readings, including a heartfelt and soulful reading of the Lord’s Prayer by Reverend Earnest Kirk followed by the lighting of candles of hope and peace, and congregational singing of Silent Night.

Jarryd Evans and Avery Molotsky of Bangs High School played taps to conclude the service.
