Press Release – The Brownwood Area Community Garden is inviting the public to the Garden to enjoy some soup, this coming Thursday, Feb. 23. The new monthly event, “Souper Thursday,” will be on the last Thursday each month, from 5-7 pm, at the Garden, at 1514 Dublin St., in Brownwood.
“Soup is just one of those universal comfort foods,” says Gary Loomis, President of the Board of Directors of the Garden. “We really appreciate the local businesses that allow us to offer this event.” The first soup will be provided by Steves’ Market and Deli, with future soups from Section Hand Restaurant, Taquito Millionario, United Supermarket, Sodexo Food Service at HPU, and the Salvation Army kitchen.
“Like many other local non-profits, it’s a real challenge for us to find new fundraising ideas that are fun and creative, so we are looking forward to trying this out,” Loomis continued. “It’s really a social event to bring more folks into the Garden, which will also help raise some money to keep us going.”
Cost for the event is $10, which includes a custom soup mug and spoon, with the Garden logo. When you return in following months, bring the mug and the cost will be only $5. Along with the soup, there will be bread or crackers, and water and tea. In case of bad weather, the event will be inside the CTO Building on Dublin St. Parking is behind the CTO Building.
New and experienced gardeners interested in leasing space at the Garden can also fill out an application during the event. The Garden is a non-profit organization that donates produce to the Salvation Army Loaves and Fishes free lunch program, and offers educational programs and job training related to organic gardening.
