The Mary Garland Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution came before the Brown County commissioners’ court Monday where a reading of a proclamation  declared September 17-23, 2011 as Constitution Week in Brown County.

This year marks the 224th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution by the Constitutional Congress in 1787.

Last week, the City of Brownwood also proclaimed Constitution Week in Brownwood during the city council on Tuesday, September 5th.

Other matters on the agenda addressed Monday by commissioners:

*David Withers, Director of Parks and Recreation of the City of Brownwood, received approval of a Resolution authorizing the county’s participation in the state grant “Texans Feeding Texans”.    Withers stated that the grant money is used for delivery of senior citizens meals for the homebound.  Currently, there are 190 seniors fed daily through the Senior Citizens’ program, 74 of these being meals delivered to those who are homebound.  The amount that is to be awarded will be determined by mid-November and depends on how many applications the state receives.  According to County Auditor Nina Cox, the county contributed $61,934 previously.  Approval was received for this amount to continue as the county’s portion of support for the meal program for seniors in Brown County.

“This is an absolutely wonderful program,” stated Judge West.  “It is truly a very good program at $2.50 for a good meal.  When I am 60 years-old, I may start eating at the senior citizens’ center”.

*County Clerk Sharon Ferguson received a consensus from the court to work with iDOCKET whcih would most likely benefit the county.  iDOCKET is an online service that provides criminal records to the public with a subscription to access these documents.  According to Ferguson, iDOCKET  has an IT person who will come to the clerk’s office and download the criminal case records to be published on their site.  The county will not be out any cost or maintenance and will in fact receive 20% of the subscription revenue collected by iDOCKET.  This agreement can be terminated within 90 days if the county sees it is not beneficial.  Juvenile and mental records are not included in the information which will be published.

“Sounds like a good idea to me, if there is no cost to the county for a potential income.  We are always looking for money,” stated Judge West.
