The Brown County Commissioners Court met today in their regular weekly meeting and heard from Suzy Young from the County Election Office. Young presented the commissioners with the proposed election judges to serve for the November election and the primaries. There is a democratic vacancy in precinct 215 and total vacancies in precinct 316. Young said that precinct 316 is vacant due to not having an adequate facility to host elections in the Owens area. This precinct is combine with another for elections.
Mrs. Taylor who lives in precinct 316 addressed commissioners and expressed her concern of not using the Owens Community Center for elections as has been done in the past. County Judge Ray West stated that there are concerns about the facility not having handicapped access nor restroom facilities that meet election guidelines. West said that they would look at the possibility of using a wheelchair ramp and portable restroom, but was unsure if this would meet election requirements. Commissioners approved the election judge list as presented.
Suzy Young also presented the proposed precincts and voting locations for the November elections. Commissioner Joel Kelton expressed concern that precincts 214 & 215 were being combine as many voters would have to drive up to 9 miles to cast a vote. Kelton moved to make these two separate voting stations. The precincts were approved with these changes giving voters 15 polling places to cast a vote.

-County approved a water line installation on CR 572 with no road cuts required
-Cheryl Nelson, County Tax Assessor-Collector requested approval of a temporary employee to help while a current full time employee is out with an illness. Commissioners approved the employee though Sept 30, 2009
-County approved two tax resale deeds for a lot in the Tamarack Mountain Subdivision and another lot in the Tannehill Sections addition subdivision.
-County Attorney Shane Britton was scheduled to address the commissioners regaring the consideration of a public information officer, but was unable to attend. This item was rescheduled to next week’s meeting.
