Brownwood emergency responders were called to a two-vehicle accident between a van and a semi-truck and trailer in the 2400 block of US Highway 377 South, in front of Ag Mart on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. when the van struck the rear of the semi-truck’s trailer.  According to witnesses on scene, the semi-truck was stopped in the outside lane of the southbound traffic, possibly attempting to back up, when the van collided with the rear of the trailer.

Brownwood firefighters worked to extricate the driver from the vehicle and were assisted by Early Volunteer Fire Department who brought additional equipment to complete the extrication.

The driver of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.  The condition and extent of the driver’s injuries were not reported at the time of the accident; however, witnesses who initially checked on the driver before emergency responders arrived reported that he was conscious after the accident.

The driver of the semi-truck was reported to be uninjured.

Brownwood Police and Allegiance EMS also responded to the scene.
