Brownwood News – Randall Lee Nix, 29 of Coleman, waived a jury Monday, December 2, in the Coleman County 42nd District Court and proceeded to trial in front of District Judge James Eidson.
According to District Attorney, Heath Hemphill, Nix was charged with Escape after fleeing from the Coleman Courthouse prior to being magistrate on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. After a morning of testimony, Judge Eidson found Nix guilty.
Punishment evidence against Nix included testimony from officers who had previously arrested Nix for Intoxication Manslaughter and Sexual Assault with a Child. Testimony was also provided from the Aggravated Assault which led to the arrest he escaped from.
Judge Eidson sentenced Nix to 35 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. Nix indicated that he would appeal the conviction and sentence, Hemphill said.
