Fireworks, cookouts, and visiting family are just a few ways that many people celebrate Independence Day, but one local business has a 4th of July tradition that helps decorate the community in a special way.

Realtors and staff of Coldwell Banker, Mark Campbell and Associates are spending July 3rd placing 6000 small United States flags in the front yards of homes across Brownwood and Early.  Owner Mark Campbell said that they kicked off their “Celebrate America” event this year by throwing a cookout for those helping place the flags.  His Realtors and staff recruit help from friends and family to go out into local neighborhoods to help put flags out.

“We have been doing this since about 1998 and it gets bigger and better each year,” Campbell said. “We love being able to give something back to the community.”

Campbell said that he loves driving down the city streets and seeing flags everywhere you look.  Over the years, Coldwell Banker has received countless “thank you” cards and notes from homeowners around the community expressing their gratitude.flags

Recent rain was a welcome change this year that excited many of the helpers who have placed flags in the past.

“The rain is going to make placing the flags in the ground much easier than usual,” said Realtor Elaine Dippel.  “The ground is usually very dry and hard this time of year.”

Coldwell Banker encourages the community to leave their flags out through the July 4th weekend.
