VFWStateTeacherOfYear2016

Coggin Music Teacher Ann Fowler has won the state VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Teacher of the Year/Citizenship Education Award for the K-5 category.  Fowler had previously won the district-level award and was notified during Coggin’s morning assembly Thursday, March 24th, that she won the state-level award as well.

Kim Swingle, the school’s Digital Media Specialist (Librarian), coordinated with the local VFW to nominate Fowler and complete the entry. Members from Brownwood’s VFW Post 3278 attended the morning assembly to congratulate Fowler following the announcement. According to the local VFW this is their first state-level winner.

The VFW Teacher of the Year award contest recognizes exceptional teachers for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students.

The award comes with a plaque, $1,000 for professional development, and an invitation to the State Convention in Dallas, June 17th.  Fowler will now be in the running for the National award.
