“My dad was in the military and my son-in-law is a marine,” said Kelley. “I just have so much respect for military families, and we’re thrilled to do anything we can do to brighten up somebody’s day or to say thank you.”
Kelley and her students gathered in the library and were joined by Coggin Elementary principal, Todd Lewis, to present the Valentines to King and Leidig.
“We sure appreciate you doing this for our veterans,” said King. “We’re going to take them out to the nursing home and distribute them out there and I’m sure they will very much appreciate it.”
Leidig also displayed her gratitude to the class with her own words of encouragement regarding the receipt of the cards.
“My son was deployed and I know he got cards from Coggin Elementary. He really did enjoy them,” said Leidig. “The military and our veterans love the cards that you all make.”
Kelley has completed other classroom projects to honor veterans as well.
“We started out making pinwheels for the veterans for Veterans Day,” said Kelley. “It’s nice for them to get to do something that is fun for them, and they know is going to make somebody else happy.”
