On Thursday, February 16th, the 4th grade classes at Coggin Elementary presented their President’s Day Program with students singing patriotic songs, delivering fun facts, and some students dressed as their favorite presidents.
“The students really enjoyed learning about the presidents,” said Brian Potter, Music Director and coordinator for the event. “I taught them a song I learned in fourth grade with all the president’s names in order from first to last.”
Potter admitted he had to update the song with the presidents that have taken office since the time he was in 4th grade.
“I think it’s really great that I can pass along something I learned at their age and still remember, even today,” said Potter. “My hope is that they can do the same.”
Potter added that the students performing as presidents volunteered, and also did their own research.
“I love that they were excited and engaged in independent learning outside the classroom,” said Potter adding that parents helped to create the costumes for their characters.
“Everyone helped put it together. From the teachers and aides to the principal and secretary,” said Potter. “Everyone pitched in to put it together and make the night a great success.”
