Coggin Avenue Baptist Church (CABC) is celebrating the completion of the expansion of their Christian Life Center with an Open House Sunday from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. The public is invited to join them as they give everyone a chance to view the facility.
The congregation and staff of CABC decided to expand the Christian Life Center (CLC) in order to provide more functional meeting space not only for the church but also for other churches and organizations of the community.
“It’s not just about Coggin,” stated pastor Tim Skaggs. “The possibilities are really neat. We hope the community will use it, we didn’t build just for us.”
Skaggs stated that the community is welcome to use the facility and reasonable rates (which have not been established yet) will be offered to the public and organizations who wish to utilize the meeting rooms or auditorium.
It is hoped that having a large multifunctional facility such as this will bring more conferences, especially Christian studies and concerts to the area, so that more local residents can experience these types of activities without having to spend the money involved in travelling to larger cities.
“There are a lot of small towns and churches around this area which may not be able to afford to drive for hours to meetings and conferences at times,” Skaggs pointed out. “Our first big conference will be in February and this will allow the public to see that we can host large good events.”
The facility is modern with all the technology for gatherings such as concerts, conferences, meetings and even private events such as weddings. In fact, they have already hosted two weddings in the main auditorium of the CLC since its completion. Throughout, the décor is modern and pleasing to the eye.
There are several meeting rooms that will hold approximately 80 people and are equipped with flat screen monitors, tables, dry erase boards and more. A small auditorium upstairs can accommodate around 250 and the main auditorium 750-800. These meeting spaces have smaller “break out” rooms available as well.
Waldrop Construction was the contractor for the project with the assistance of the church’s building committee and staff and did what Skaggs considers “a fantastic job”.
The remodel of the gym and CLC in 2006 after it burned and construction of the addition to the CLC along with a redecoration of the main church’s worship center will complete phase I of CABC’s building campaign, according to Skaggs. A huge financial responsibility for a church to take on, especially during hard economic times, has been accomplished so far, according to Skaggs.
“It’s not been easy, but our people have done a good job of responding to the challenge of building this facility during tough economic times,” said Skaggs. “I’m really proud of our people.”
The open house will be from 1:30-3:00pm this Sunday, the public is invited to view the facility and meet the staff at this time.
