CoffeyJersey2002 Howard Payne Alum and now recording star Coffey Anderson is featured in this weekend’s Howard Payne University Homecoming 2010 festivities.

Anderson along with his wife Criscilla and daughter Savannah started off the weekend with Homecoming Convocation and crowning of the HPU’s Homecoming Queen & Princess.  At this service, Anderson entertained the crowd with a few upbeat praise songs and a spirit filled version of Amazing Grace, and then closed by joining current students and alumni singing the HPU school song.

After the convocation services, Anderson was overwhelmed by old classmates, new fans, and faculty visiting and signing autographs.

Once the crowd cleared a bit, Head Men’s Basketball Coach Troy Drummond, who expressed the pride the team has in seeing his success, presented Anderson with his HPU basketball jersey that was framed with a picture of Anderson as a player during his years at HPU.

“We still consider you a part of the team,” stated Drummond.

Some of the favorite memories of Anderson’s days at HPU included Daze of Payne and playing on the men’s basketball team.

“Just playing basketball with so many different guys from different parts of the world was great,” stated Anderson.

When asked what experience at HPU really helped him along the road to success, Anderson answered “The way they (Howard Payne) pull the older generation of alumni together with the younger alumni to mingle.”  He explained that this  really gave him a sense of tradition and prepared him for interaction with people from all walks of life and all generations.

Anderson is also being honored as the 2010 Outstanding Young Graduate Friday night at the Alumni Awards Banquet.

Congratulations to Coffey Anderson in his success as a recording star and the ministry that he has alongside this success.
