CodeREDBrown County Emergency Management Coordinator Brent Bush addressed the commissioners court on Tuesday to announce that the “Code RED” Emergency Notification System will be calling citizens and businesses throughout the area to urge them to register for the Weather Warning System.  Of the 16,000 people registered for the Code RED notifications, only 18% have registered for the weather warning.  Registering for the alerts is a very simple and quick process.

With the help of citizens to get the word out, it is hoped that eventually all phones in the area will be registered and lives will be saved.

The “all-call” will be on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 2:00pm.  The script for the call is as follows:

“This is Brown County Emergency Management with an important message for all residents and businesses in Brown County.  We need your help.  If you received this call, that means you are currently in our new CodeRED emergency notification calling system.  However we do not currently have telephone numbers for all residents and businesses in our files.  If you know anyone who did not receive this call who lives in Brown County, please encourage them to visit the Brown County website at www.browncountytx.orgor the City of Brownwood website at www.ci.brownwood.tx.usand click on the CodeRED Emergency Notification link on the “Home Page” of either site to add their contact information.

As an additional service Brown County, City of Brownwood, and City of Bangs have made it possible for you to also register your household and/or business to receive automated severe weather warnings through this same service.

All residents who wish to be notified for tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings MUST add their contact information through the Brown County website at www.browncountytx.org.  In the event of a tornado, this notification could save your life.  If you do not have Internet access please contact a friend or family member to add your contact information into the emergency database.  If you have questions, please call 325-643-1985 Monday through Friday 9:00am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 4:30pm.”

More information about the success stories of CodeRED can be viewed on the CodeRED website.

Bush also noted that the National Weather Service will be presenting the “Storm Ready Community” designation to Brown County at the next Commissioners Court meeting on Monday, February 8, 2010.
