Clydie Katherine Guthrie Drennan, 100, passed away on January 20, 2017, at a local nursing home in Brownwood, Texas.
Clydie was born to John Thomas Guthrie and Minnie McNeil on November 11, 1916, in a little farm house in Sidney, Texas. She was the fourth child of twelve. Growing up on a farm and helping with the many chores that were required for survival in the early 1900’s meant getting up early and working from sun up to sun down.
Clydie graduated from Sidney High School and shortly after met a guy, C.A. “Buddy” Drennan, at a party at his brother’s house, which became her husband. C.A. and Clydie married on July 15, 1934, and celebrated 69 years of marriage prior to this death in 2003.
Both of Clydie’s grandpa’s were Methodist ministers therefore she was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She was a youth leader, a Sunday school teacher, served in most positions of the Methodist’s women’s groups, prayer groups and was a current member of Central United Methodist Church in Brownwood, Texas. Her family was a musical family and her parents and sister played the piano and her brother played the guitar and as she loved to say, “the rest of us played the dickens.” She loved the old hymns she grew up singing. She was a wonderful seamstress, loved crafts and quilting but her main love was baking pies, cakes, cookies and coffee cakes to take to her neighbors, shut-ins, friends, or new comers in her church.
