Cloma R. Whitley passed from this life on March 27, 2016 in her home at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Mrs. Whitley will be at 2:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2016 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
She was born April 20, 1922 in Locker, Texas to Alvin and Susie Newsom. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ira Whitley, December 25, 1940. There were three children born into their marriage. Cloma was a long-time resident of Brownwood. In her youth Cloma attended school at Locker in San Saba County. Cloma was a member of Christ Chapel Church for many years. She enjoyed going to yard sales and having a garden to work in for many years.
Survivors are her daughters, Linda Nesmith and husband Tom of Blanket, Nancy Jones of Brownwood; son Kenneth Whitley and wife Judy of Brownwood; two granddaughters, Martha Suddereth and husband Jesse of Austin, and Barbara Jones of North Little Rock, Arkansas; three grandsons, Shane Harris and Shawn Harris of Lonoke, Arkansas and Robert Whitley of Brownwood; five great-grandchildren; three beloved pets, Moma Cat, Murphy, and Tiny. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Cokendolpher of Austin; several nieces and nephews; and many long-time friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ira Whitley; one grandson, Joshua Whitley; two sisters, Peggy Monroe, and Verma Ward; two brothers, Dwight and Roland Newsom; parents, Alvin and Susie Newsom.
