The Brown County Water Improvement District, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, Early Chamber of Commerce, Lake Brownwood Community Development Council, and Keep Brownwood Beautiful have joined together for the effort to help dispose of the man-made debris from Lake Brownwood.
The cleanup is scheduled to take place on the next two Saturday’s, August 13th and 20th from 7am-11am with large roll-off dumpsters available for volunteers and Lake Brownwood residents to dispose of trash and debris they find in the dry lake bed.
The cleanup effort will consist of two components, one involving lake property owners and the other using volunteers. Owners of waterfront property are asked to clean up the dry area around their property, bag up the trash, and bring it to one of the designated points for disposal. Volunteers are also being sought to help in more visible areas of the lake. Volunteers interested in helping can join the effort by meeting at the Tootie Kelly Real Estate office parking lot, 7551 Hwy 279, at 6:30am each of the clean-up days. Volunteers will be given bags and instructions from there.
Drop-off points for lake debris will be at the following locations and dates:
Aug 13:
Mountain View – roll-off dumpster
Flagship Inn – Lower parking area
Aug 20:
Public Boat Ramp at Dam – roll-off dumpster
Officials will carry the collected man-made debris to the Brownwood landfill at the end of each cleanup. Property owners and volunteers are reminded that only man-made trash and debris from the lake can be collected. Bagged garbage from the lake bed can be placed into the roll-off dumpsters. Metal, tires, and other objects may not be thrown into the roll-off dumpsters, but will be accepted separately.
No rocks, brush, stumps, trees, etc. may be removed from the lakebed and those helping with the cleanup are not allowed to drive vehicles on the dry areas of the lake. Also, no household appliances can be accepted during this cleanup effort.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, hard sole shoes, and sunscreen.
