Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies’ & Men’s Auxiliaries observed the end of the War in Europe, VE Day, on May 8th at the VFW Post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin.

The Post awarded the Victory in Europe Commemorative Medal to Machinist Mate 3rd Class Michael M. Claude Jr.  Mr. Claude served in United States Coast Guard July 1942 to March 1946.   He is credited with the American Campaign Medal for his service in the Battle of the Atlantic.

The war against Germany lasted 3 years and 5 months. Over 183,588 Service members were killed in the war in Europe.
