Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree released the following statement regarding fraudulent solicitations in order to warn citizens of this telephone scam:
It has come to our attention that phone call solicitations have been made to local citizens purporting to offer City of Brownwood bonds for sale in denominations of $250. Please be advised that this solicitation is fraudulent.
The City of Brownwood Combination Tax and Revenue Certificates of Obligation, Series 2012 are currently only being offered for direct sale through Southwest Securities, Inc. and RBC Capital Markets, LLC in denominations of $5,000.
Individuals interested in purchasing these bonds are advised to put in orders through local brokers or call Brownwood City Hall at (325) 646-5775 and ask for the finance department.
