The Brownwood City Council met today in regular session at City Hall and received some good news.
In a report submitted by Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission will meet this Thursday to take action to award a $500,000 grant to the city for their upcoming Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Facility and the Sports Complex Projects.
Councilman Carl McMillian said that there were 24 applications submitted for only 8 available grants, and Brownwood is the 5th grant that will awarded on Thursday. Councilman McMillian, Parks & Recreation Director David Withers, and Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee Chair Richard Porter will be present at the TPWC’s meeting on Thursday to accept the grant award on behalf of the city.
Out of this grant, $250,000 will go to help fund the Family Aquatic Facility and the other $250,000 will be allotted to the Camp Bowie Sports Complex project.
Expected cost of the Family Aquatic Facility is $2.2 million with a tentative completion date of May 29th, 2010.
With this grant, the city will have over $3.75 million allotted for the Sports Complex which is still in the planning stages.
