Brownwood News – The Brownwood City Council was in session Tuesday morning.  All members were present.  Mayor Stephen Haynes presided over the meeting.

The Council went into Executive Session and, after consultation with their attorney, came back into Open Session and approved a settlement of the Shepherd versus City of Brownwood lawsuit.  The Council approved a $6,000 settlement with the Shepherd’s with $3,000 to come from Texas Municipal League liability coverage and $3,000 to come from City funds.  They also authorized the City Attorney to draft a settlement agreement adding that there will be no further claims to be signed by the Mayor.

In other business the Council authorized the Mayor to sign a deed waiving any violations of restrictive covenants on property at 400 East Commerce, rescinding and releasing the restrictive covenant prohibiting the use of  the property as a used car lot and quitclaiming any interest the City may have in the property to Terry and Holly Burnett.

In Public Comments, local resident Jeff Smith asked to be placed on an upcoming agenda regarding concerns he has about rollout dumpsters.
