The Brownwood City Council met in an executive session today to consult with the city attorney regarding the alcohol permit for Food Plaza #9 located at 2800 Southside Drive.
As a result of the closed session, the Council authorized the city attorney Pat Chesser to proceed to contact the attorney general of Texas to request the AG to seek an injunction against the sale of alcohol at that location.
Chesser said that the City has an ordinance prohibiting the sale of alcohol within 300 feet of a public school. The measurement method is property line to property line. The Brownwood Independent School District property which houses the administrative buildings and the Brownwood Accelerated High School is within 300 feet of the property line of Food Plaza.
The BISD administrative building’s address is 2707 Southside Drive and across the corner to the Food Plaza store.
