CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallAlthough Brownwood and the surrounding areas of Brown County are a little greener these days after some welcomed rainfall this summer, the public is reminded to conserve water and obey current water restrictions.

City of Brownwood Officials remind citizens of the current Stage 3 restrictions of the Drought Contingency Plan as follows:

1.  All personal, non-household water use is restricted to Mondays and Tuesdays only:

a.  Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Monday only from midnight to 9 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight.

b.  Addresses ending in even numbers may water on Tuesday only from midnight to 9 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to midnight.

2.  Watering of parks and outside school areas is limited to drip irrigation or handheld hose on designated days for trees, shrubs and planters.

3.  Non-essential Commercial water use reduced 20%.

4.  Minimize outdoor usage.

5.  Reduction in use goal is 10%.

6.  Penalties:

a.  Warnings, House call

b.  Turn off and reconnect fee

c.  Watering violations may be reported by calling the City of Brownwood Service Center at 325-646-6000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Free magnets with the watering schedule are available at city hall along with many brochures on ways to conserve water.

City of Brownwood Assistant Division Director of Public Works/Director of Utilities David Harris stated that 6900 of these free magnets were sent to Brownwood residences and businesses to make the watering schedules easily available.

“We have been blessed with a wet cool summer (comparatively for Texas) but the lake is still only at 50.5% capacity as of today,” said Harris on Thursday afternoon.
