CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallIn their regular monthly meeting, the Brownwood City Council took action on several items today.  One of which was to reappoint members to various committee’s and commissions throughout the city.

In other action today:

-The council held a public hearing on the adoption of the $.7452 per $100 valuation tax rate for property taxes.  Although the tax rate itself is not increasing this year, city property values increased so the city is required to hold two public hearings regarding this increase.  The average property valuation went up from $70,225 in 2008 to $70,838 in 2009.  The second public hearing will be held on September 8th.

-The council approved an ordinance to allow the Brownwood Police department to use $10,000 in cash reserves as a local match for a $20,000 grant to purchase two digital radio repeaters.

-The council approved an ordinance to use an additional $15,537 in cash reserves for work on city hall to replace the roof and light fixtures.  Cost of the entire project is $109,537.

-The council approved the 2009/2010 Brownwood Economic Development Corporation’s annual budget.

-The council passed a resolution accepting the TWDB Phase II waterline replacement project as complete. 13,400 feet of water main lines were replaced with this project.

Reports to the city from City Manager Bobby Rountree mentioned the approval of a TPWD Grant (see story here), report on the 4th St road project, and an update on the ADA ramps installed throughout the city.  There have been 72 of these ramps installed costing $129,000 so far.

Mayor Bert Massey also expressed the council’s condolences to the family of city employee Robert Diehl.  Diehl passed away on Friday at his home.
