Lake Brownwood is 12.12 feet below the spillway and 1.8 feet from the Stage 4 water restriction trigger point; therefore, the Brown County Water Improvement District will consider implementing Stage 4 water restrictions at its July meeting. Stage 4 eliminates all outside watering. The City of Brownwood’s current Stage 3 restrictions allows watering one time per week.
City officials state that compliance with Stage 3 restrictions is an important step in avoiding Stage 4.
“If we do not enforce Stage 3, we are going to quickly find ourselves in Stage 4,” said City Manager Bobby Rountree in a recent press release. “Two warnings are issued prior to the issuance of a citation. The citation for the first offense is $265. The second violation will result in the water being cut off, a re-connect fee of $35 and a citation up to $2000.”
The area has seen some recent and steady rains; however, none have had much impact on the lake’s watershed. Weather patterns in Central Texas for July and August are typically hot and dry. There is no reason to expect anything different this year, according to weather forecasts.
Brownwood citizens are reminded of the Stage 3 restrictions:
Monday – odd addresses allowed to water from midnight to 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to midnight.
Tuesday – even addresses allowed to water from midnight to 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to midnight.
Watering parks and outside school areas is limited to drip irrigation or handheld hoses on designated days for trees, shrubs and planters.
Water waste is prohibited: Water waste is defined as allowing runoff from irrigation into the streets or alleys, over watering of lawns, filling of swimming pools/fountains, leaking pipes or other abnormal usage.
Violations can be reported to the City of Brownwood Service Center at (325) 646-6000 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
