The City of Brownwood asks the public to help by participating in a survey regarding natural hazards and emergency preparedness to help local leaders develop an updated hazard mitigation plan.
Hazard Mitigation planning is a proactive effort to identify actions that can be taken to reduce the dangers to life and property from natural hazards such as flooding, wildfire, drought, thunderstorms, and lightening to name a few.
A partnership of city governments and other stakeholders along with the City of Brownwood are working together to create an updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. The original Hazard Mitigation Plan was prepared by the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition (TCRFC) and included the City of Brownwood and communities in 16 other counties. The updated plan will focus only on hazards identified within Brownwood and communities within Mills County. The plan is developed in response to Federal programs that enable the partnership to use pre- and post-disaster financial assistance to reduce the exposure of city residents to risks associated with natural hazards. In order to identify and plan for future natural disasters, city officials need the public’s assistance. This questionnaire is designed to help city planners gage the level of knowledge local citizens already have about disaster issues and to identify areas vulnerable to various types of disasters. The information the public provides will help city officials coordinate activities to reduce the risk of injury or property damage in the future. To take the survey, please CLICK HERE.
