The City of Bangs issued a boil water notice for a portion of its water customers east of the Dollar General store Monday morning.  According to City Manager Leo Smith, the extended period of drought followed by the recent rains have caused a shifting of the soil which caused a 6” water main to break.

Smith stated that the repair is underway and he expects things to be back to normal sometime Tuesday.

“Repairs are nearly complete and testing is underway,” stated Smith.  “I expect the boil water notice to be removed sometime tomorrow.”

Until the notice is lifted, citizens are urged to continue boiling water.  To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

Officials at the city will notify customers when the water is safe for consumption and when it is no longer necessary to boil the water.
