Bangs Mayor Eric Bishop told the Bangs City council Monday night that the search for Bangs’ new Police Chief continues.

Bishop said a total of 70 people applied for the position, but only 30 actually met the required criteria. Of those 30, the four-person selection committee narrowed the list down to the top 17 candidates. On Tuesday, November 4th, the committee whittled the list down to the top 5 finalists in the search. Bishop said the selection committee will begin two days of oral interviews December 1st, and again on Dec 4th.

Mayor Bishop said they hope to name the new police chief sometime in the first two weeks of December.

Right now, Bangs has two certified, commissioned Police Officers on the street; Jorge Camarillo from Austin, and Mike Isbell from the Bangs area of rural Brown County. Bishop said both men are working long hours, seven days a week. They are being assisted by the Brown County Sheriff’s office.
