The City of Brownwood mailed out 6,833 Consumer Confidence Reports today to the water customers of Brownwood . This annual report is required by EPA to let the consumers know what steps are taken to assure that their water is in compliance with State and Federal regulations. In addition to mailing to bill paying customers, the report is available on the city web page at www.ci.brownwood.tx.us . Just click on the CCR link and a PDF copy is available. Hard copies are available at city hall with the water conservation information.
Each year we try to pick a cover picture that relates to Brownwood or is educational. What is shown this year is the interface between private (customer responsibility) plumbing and the City of Brownwood infrastructure. The picture shows a clear line of responsibility. The meter box which is at the edge of the customer’s property is owned and maintained by the City of Brownwood . Nothing in the box should be tampered with, modified or damaged. Intentional or inadvertent actions could result in the loss of water service to the customer property.
The valve in the meter box should not be used to cut off water to the property. The customer valve shown on the customer side of the valve is what should be used. Plumbing codes require a customer cut off valve to reduce chances of problems to customer water service. If your property does not have one, you can have one installed by a plumber or install one yourself if it is your residential property and you have the appropriate permit. This valve is what is very important if you have a leak inside your house and need the water off immediately. Questions about plumbing codes can be directed to Development Services Department at 646-5775.
