Brownwood News – The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a political forum for the candidates on Friday, April 13th, at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The forum featured the candidates from the Mayor and City Council races. Candidates attending and participating in the forum were Incumbent Mayor Stephen Haynes, and Challenger Mike Tittle. Incumbent Councilman H.D. Jones and Challenger Patrick McLaughlin.

After a brief introduction from Chamber Executive Director Ray Tipton, candidates were instructed regarding the format of the forum. Rather than both candidates answering the same question, specific questions were selected ahead of time for each candidate. Questions ranged from inquiring how the challenging candidates would cut spending and lower tax rates, to questions regarding past decisions and actions by the incumbents. Candidates were also able to give a response after their opposing candidate had answered a question.

The question and answer session for the Ward 1 City Council Seat was set for 30 minutes, with about 10 questions total. Each candidate was also given two minutes for closing remarks. This video features the question and answer session for Councilman H.D. Jones and Challenger Patrick McLaughlin.
