Brownwood News – The Brownwood City Council met for no more than five minutes on Thursday morning with all members present. There were no public comments and no one appeared to address the proposed tax rate. “What the city is recommending is keeping the tax rate at $.7869 per $100 valuation, this is what the tax rate was last year,” said Emily Crawford, City Manager.
It was explained by Mayor Stephen Haynes that property tax values went up. “Because we are receiving an additional 3.4% in tax revenue from property taxes, then we must post this as a tax rate increase although the actual rate is not increasing,” Crawford said.
The next Public Hearing on the proposed tax rate is at 9:00 am Tuesday, September 10.
