CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallThe hot topic with county, city, and Brown County Water Improvement officials of late is the flood remapping project that FEMA has been working on in our area.

City officials recapped last weeks joint meeting (read previous article HERE for more info) today during the regular meeting of the Brownwood City Council.

Mayor Bert Massey reviewed that FEMA is wanting to raise the current flood plain from 1435 mean sea level (msl) to 1438.  Massey said that City Surveyor Don King is working hard to finish his work to submit showing that the elevation of the spillway is 1425 msl which will help the city & county’s concerns if the National Geodedic Survey will certify this number as correct and FEMA will accept the flood plain as 10 feet above this level.

Massey said, “A request from the governing body, which is Brown County, will have some impact with FEMA.”

Today Brown County Commissioners adopted a resolution regarding this issue to help in the cause.  Click HERE for that coverage and a copy of the resolution.

The City Council is going to propose a resolution of their own to support the one that the county approved today.  This will appear on the city agenda next Tuesday, September 15th in an already scheduled special meeting.
