Brownwood News – In a meeting on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 the Brownwood City Council authorized the Mayor to sign a contract with Brown, Reynolds, Watford Architects for a schematic design of a community facilities project.  The cost of the schematic design will be $152,000 funded by the Brownwood Municipal Development District.   It will take about six weeks for the architect to deliver the first draft of plans to the City.  The schematic designs will be the first step in the actual project design and will give the City and BMDD an opportunity to better determine what the needs will be of each part of the project.

The city is looking at improvements to the Brownwood Coliseum, re-development of the Timmins building as an event center and re-development of the old ice house building into an outdoor event and concert stage venue.   These buildings are located to the southwest of the coliseum, near Baker and Washington.

The overall goal of the project will be to offer the community more quality meeting/event spaces, redevelop facilities that create a positive economic impact through tourism and help in the development of new community events, according to the City.   Any project adopted as a result of this feasibility study and schematic design agreement would be primarily funded through the BMDD reserve funds, according to the City.
