Brownwood News – The Brownwood City Council met Tuesday, September 10. Highlights from the meeting are as follows:
The Council held a Public Hearing on the proposed tax rate of $.7869 per $100 value, the same rate as last year. No one spoke during the Public Hearing. The proposed tax rate will be presented for adoption on first reading September 17 and second and third readings on September 24.
The Council authorized Mayor Stephen Haynes to write a letter from the City of Brownwood to Brown County Home Solutions providing official support and approval of Legacy Village. Linda Heitman, Brown County Home Solutions Director, made the request and updated them on the tiny home projects on Avenue D.
The Council approved supporting the 2020 Census by becoming a Census Partner. Misti Hill, Census Partnership Specialist, made a presentation to the Council regarding the 2020 Census and requested official partnership from the City.
The Council approved the 2019-2020 Annual Budget of the Brownwood Municipal Development District. The balanced budget is in the amount of $1,983,206.81.
The Council approved a resolution approving the continued receipt of a statutory share of bingo prize fees collected on charitable bingo activity that occurs within the City.
The Council passed all Consent Agenda items including A. – a negotiated settlement between Atmos Cities Steering Committee and Atmos Energy regarding the 2019 rate review mechanism filing. B. – a resolution authorizing submission of a Downtown Revitalization Program grant application. C. – a resolution determining a slum and blighted area in the Downtown District. D. – adoption of a citizen participation plan and grievance procedures related to CDBG grant projects.
The Council authorized the City Manager to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Brownwood and Keep Brownwood Beautiful for the 2019/2020 fiscal year. KBB will no longer be responsible for maintaining the Traffic T. KBB will coordinate with the City for Holiday lighting to ensure collaboration of efforts.
The Council ratified appointments and re-appointments as follows:
Brown County Appraisal District – 2 year term – Draco Miller
Brownwood Housing Authority – 2 year term – Vicki Cox, Mary Acuna, Cathy Day
Brownwood Municipal Development District – 2 year term – can only serve 4 consecutive 2 year terms before rotating off – Daniel Hutson, Marisha Stidom
Center for Life Resources – 2 years – Lisa Dick
