Candidates running for city offices participated in a political forum Tuesday night at Howard Payne’s Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom which was hosted by the Brownwood Municipal Police Association. President of the association, Officer Mitch Slaymaker, asked questions for all ten candidates who had two minutes to respond to each question. Candidates seeking the office of mayor and city council seats for Ward 1, 2, and 4 all participated in the event.
Overall, candidates agreed with each other on many of the issues and topics discussed. They all acknowledged that illegal drugs are a definite issue that needs to be addressed more heavily, but praised the work that local law enforcement is doing in that effort.
Candidates were also asked if they supported a juvenile curfew in the city. All of the candidates expressed hesitation of implementing such an ordinance citing that it should be the parent’s responsibility.
