As the anniversary of 9-11 approaches and to remember police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, the Brownwood Municipal Police Association encourages residents of Brown County to display a blue light bulb in an exterior light at their residence this weekend.
This display of blue lights from Friday, September 11th through Sunday, September 13th will also show support to all local law enforcement.
“Many brave men and women have sacrificed everything, so let’s show our support,” said BMPA officials.
About 9-11: On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks, often referred to as 9/11 or the Attack on America, resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism. The presidency of George W. Bush is defined by these attacks. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters.
“Never forget” was the heartfelt refrain after the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.
