A celebration honoring the life of Cindy Miller will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 14 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Cindy was called home on Monday, March 11, 2019, following a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her illness she always remained positive and a light to those who loved her.
Born on May 6, 1957, in Albany, Texas, Cindy Lu Gates was the only daughter of Priscilla Ann Howsley and Rubert Walter Gates Sr. Growing up alongside her three brothers in small town Albany, Texas, she enjoyed horseback riding and rodeo events and was a member of the Pleasure Riders Club and 4-H Horse Club. Cindy was a member of First Christian Church of Albany and participated in many school and extracurricular activities including pep squad, band and sports. She graduated Albany High School in 1975, and later that year from Cisco Junior College School of Cosmetology. She continued her education and earned her esthetician certification. Cindy began her career in Albany and later worked at Belle Femme Salon in Abilene. Highly esteemed amongst her profession she was a hair and makeup stylist for Abilene Ballet Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker and also served as a beauty pageant judge. Upon moving to Brownwood, Cindy worked in the JCPenney Salon before opening her own business, Friend’s Salon. Closer to retirement she took clients at Headquarters Salon. Unsurprisingly, with a strong work ethic and unmatched talent, Cindy had a dedicated following of clients and achieved the status of Master Stylist.
On May 6, 2006, Cindy married James Larry “Bunny” Miller. They made their home just outside of Brownwood and cherished their time together living the country life. Always the consummate homemaker Cindy had exceptional taste in regard to interior design and loved to stay busy curating a beautiful home for her family. She would often help other family and friends do the same in their own homes. With her family she enjoyed horseback riding, camping and fishing trips. Years after her own children were grown Cindy experienced a new joy in life, “Grammie” to her precious granddaughter, Madison. Retiring on the day of her birth in 2013, Cindy was delighted to be a full-time “Grammie” caring for Madison as they spent many days together doing all the little girl things.
Left to cherish the memories of her loving and cheerful spirit: her husband, Bunny Miller of Brownwood; mother, Priscilla Gates of Albany; daughter, Ami Davis of Albany; sons, Robert Davis and wife, Heather of Odessa and Jake Davis and daughter-in-law, Mary Sallee of Brownwood; granddaughter, Madison Davis of Brownwood; brothers, R.W. Gates and wife, Pam of Tomball, Rob Gates and wife, Kristy of Rockwall and Jim Gates and wife, Stacey of Rhome; step-daughters, Donna Harper and husband, John and Terrie Cornelius, all of Brownwood; step-son, Roger Cornelius and wife, Becca of Brownwood; as well as her step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Rubert Gates, Sr.
