BrownChristineOn Friday, November 8, 2013, Christine Alford Brown passed away after a 1-year battle with a stroke and lung cancer.

Chris was born during a dust storm in Coleman County, Texas, May 2, 1935, to Truett M. Alford and Mary Jo Smith Alford. She grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1953. She attended Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Nursing degree in 1956.  She worked as a Registered Nurse for 41 years with a career that included Labor & Delivery and OR at both Mainland Center Hospital in LaMarque, Texas, and Danforth Hospital in Texas City, Texas.  The majority of her career was spent working in the Public Health field at the Galveston County 4-C’s Clinic in LaMarque, Texas.  At the time of her retirement she worked in the Emergency Room of Coleman County Medical Center, in Coleman, Texas.

On November 1, 1963, she married Don Maynard Brown and moved to LaMarque, Texas.  While living on the Gulf Coast, they raised their family and shared their joy of fishing and hunting.  They were known for calling their friends on a Saturday afternoon after firing up the barbecue pit, making a bowl of potato salad and throwing an impromptu party.  They never needed a special occasion or reason other than wanting to share fun times with their family and friends.

In 1992, she and Don moved from La Marque to a ranch near Grosvenor, Texas, returning to their roots in West Texas. They raised cattle, fished, hunted dove whenever the season was open, and enjoyed the slower pace of life in the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, who passed away in 2004.  Survivors include daughters, Roxanne Woodman of Durango, Colorado, Pat Karacostas of Richardson, Texas, and Donna Daigle; one son, Mike Brown of Santa Fe, Texas; six grandchildren, Christopher Daigle, Sarah Daigle, Steven Karacostas, Justin Brown, Chase Karacostas, and Buck Woodman; and four great-grandchildren.

At Chris’ request, there will be no public service held. A private family service will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, memorials may be sent to the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030.
