CWJCGraduation2016

Family, friends and community leaders joined Christian Women’s Job Corps faculty and board members who gathered to celebrate the graduation of three dedicated women at the close of the spring term.  David Bryant, pastor of Southside Church gave the commencement address.

The women successfully completed study in various courses of instruction including computer skills, math, writing and grammar, money management, electronic bookkeeping, and personal growth programs.

Christian Women’s Job Corps, birthed through the efforts of Liz Looby and Betty Evans, has completed twenty-three semesters of instruction taught in a Christian atmosphere for the benefit of women who need to acquire marketable skills.

Christian Women’s Job Corps offers a thirteen week course of study each fall and spring term. This program is offered at no cost to the student because most positions are filled by volunteers from the community.  Thursday evening three ladies celebrated the completion of the course and were awarded diplomas from Christian Women’s Job Corps.

In an essay, one student wrote, “I dropped out of school when I was in junior high because of extreme circumstances.  Joining Christian Women’s Job Corps has been a rewarding experience because I have acquired many skills and have more confidence.”

Another student wrote, “I am not sure what job will come out of all this when I graduate.  I leave that in God’s hands.  I will be thankful always for the opportunity I have been given. I no longer fear the future.”

The graduation ceremony on Thursday evening was the culmination of a semester of hard work and the efforts of dedicated people who are willing to give their time.  The obstacles for these women often seem insurmountable, but the rewards are the myriad, according to CWJC officials.
