A Memorial Service for Christi Lynne Nelson, age 38, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Heartland Funeral Home. Miss Nelson passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at her residence.
Christi was born on Mother’s Day, May 8th of 1977 in Brownwood. She quickly won the hearts of all the adults in her world. Petite and pretty she grew up to be a busy toddler. When she was two years old her Grandpa Nelson affectionately nick-named her ‘Queenie’. When she was three she and her parents moved from Lake Brownwood to Midland where she enjoyed shopping with her Mom, swimming in the pool, and playing. Then she moved with her parents to Ozona for a short while. Just before her fourth birthday she and her parents moved back to Lake Brownwood. There she enjoyed playing under the trees, being doted upon by her older neighbors, and especially living close to her Nana. She loved going to town with her Nana and her Mom in Nana’s ‘town car’. Her mom tried to keep her supplied with plenty of activity books to keep her busy mind busy. She took dancing lessons in Brownwood. She took piano lessons at Lake Brownwood and attended Rocky Creek Baptist Church when she was small and loved going to their vacation bible school. She participated in one of the first Frontier Days at Heartland Mall wearing a prairie dress her Mom had made for her. There were many happy occasions when she enjoyed playing with her cousins, family times at Nana and Papa’s, Sunday dinners at Grandma and Grandpa Nelson’s, playing with her older and younger brothers, and playing with friends. Christi started school at Bangs and went to school there until the age of thirteen. She enjoyed her friends and school at Bangs. She was the Fall Festival Queen in grade school at Bangs. She played basketball on the ‘Dynomites’ team in Brownwood and went to the play-off in Breckenridge with them.
At thirteen she moved to Dallas to live with her dad and new second family. She graduated from Lakeview Centennial High School in Dallas. Christi seemed to love living in Dallas. She stayed there and worked until she was over thirty years old. She worked for Bowne and lived in Las Colinas for seven of those years. Christi was always friendly and willing to help people. She said she didn’t see ‘color’ she just saw people. She had many friends in Dallas. She came back to Brownwood and continued to collect friends with her outgoing personality. Willing to help others, she worked as a living assistant in home healthcare for over two years. We will greatly miss her big heart.
