Corporate officials of Chevron Phillips Chemical visited Brownwood Wednesday to recognize the local Performance Pipe plant for their success in production and safety record.
Plant Manager Mike Hemm, along with Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ray Tipton, Chamber Board President Tim Espinosa and Chamber Board President-Elect Daniel Hutson welcomed CP Chem officials President and CEO Pete Cella, Executive VP of Commercial Department Mark Lashier, VP of Environmental Health and Safety Kate Holzhauser, and Performance Pipe General Manager Lawyer C. Jolley to Brownwood as they landed at the Brownwood Regional Airport mid-day.Hemm stated that the Brownwood Performance Pipe plant is one of nine in the nation. Currently there are 68 employees.
“You have got to be proud of what Brownwood employees are capable of,” said Hemm. “Over the last year, they were the top smooth wall pipe manufacturing plant by providing more pipe than any other manufacturing plant in North America. They produced that without injury and without any quality or service complaints this past year.”
Hemm came to Brownwood in 2011 as he assumed the position of plant manager, as he explained, “at a time when the plant was under consideration to close the doors, but employees were fighting for a chance to ‘upright the ship.’” Since then, the plant has seen major accomplishments. In addition to being the company’s top pipe manufacturing plant, Performance Pipe has also been accident free for nearly five years, which takes continuous effort, according to officials.
Performance Pipe operates facilities across the U.S. in Reno, Nevada; Brownwood, Texas; Pryor, Oklahoma; Bloomfield, Iowa; Fairfield, Iowa; Knoxville, Tennessee; Williamstown, Kentucky; Startex, South Carolina and Hagerstown, Maryland.
