damronChester Damron, age 85, of Blanket died Monday evening at the Abilene Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Buddy Cobb of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blanket Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born November 26, 1924 the son of Butler and Bertha Mae Stephens Damron.
Following his graduation from high school, he served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II. He later married Iva Lois Godbehere at Bartlesville, Oklahoma on June 16, 1948. He was actively involved in the dairy business for many years and helped many with milk delivery as the dairy business evolved in Brown County. He has always been an active supporter of the 4-H and FFA programs and the Brown County Youth Fair. He served on the Blanket School Board 11 years, was a director on the Youth Fair, and a former member of the Blanket Lions Club. He served as a director and voting delegate for the American Milk Producers Association

He served as Brown County Commissioner for Pct. # 3 for three terms, and later as Justice of the Peace for Pct. # 3 for 4 years. He also served as a director of First State Bank of Bangs until it sold. He was a member of the American Legion and was recently recognized at an awards ceremony for his service to his country during World War II.

He had a love for horses and was involved in ranching for many years. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Iva Damron of Blanket

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Sisters, Ila Mae Lovelace and Lois Marie Damron and a brother, Butler Damron, Jr.
