Brownwood ISD teaches chess to every single 2nd and 3rd grader in the district through the First Move Chess program. Every student not only learns the game of chess, but also takes home a complete chess set to keep forever. Chess helps students academically by helping them focus, visualize, think ahead, weigh options, analyze, plan, and think abstractly – all skills they will need to be successful students and successful adults in the real world.
