Brownwood TX Harris_CharlieFuneral services for Charlie L. “Dood” Harris, age 79, of Owens, Texas formerly of Imperial, Texas will be held 10:00 AM Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Heartland Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in the Heflin Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.  Mr. Harris passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his residence.

Charlie L. “Dood” Harris was born on March 28, 1933 in Salesville, Texas (Palo Pinto County) to James Barney and Lillie Augusta Gwynn Harris.  He served in the United States Army and was married to Rosa Lee “Shot” Holder on October 14, 1966 in Imperial.   They lived the majority of their married life in Imperial and moved to the Owens Community in 2005.  Mr. Harris farmed and ranched for many years and served as constable in Pecos, Texas for 16 years.  He was a member of the Imperial United Methodist Church, the Imperial Masonic Lodge # 1285, the Imperial Roping Club and was a member of the Fort Stockton sheriff’s Posse.

Survivors include his wife Rosa Lee “Shot” Harris of Owens; two daughters Terry Hopper of Ponder, Texas, Tammie Johnson and husband Eric of Corpus Christ, Texas; four grandchildren Kaylee Coleman, Megan Johnson, Zack Hooper and Sydney Hooper; one great grandson Hayden Lane Scarbrough; two sisters Patsy Wallace of Midland, Texas, Bonnie White and husband Wayland of Kerrville, Texas; one brother Bill Harris and wife Gwen of Junction, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers J.B., John and Joe Harris.
