HeatherA celebration of the life of Charlie Heather, age 90, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.  Burial with military honors will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.

Charlie passed from this life on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in Brownwood.

Thomas Charles “Charlie” Heather was born to William J. and Maud E. Heather on November 27, 1924, in Brownwood, Texas. Charles was a 1942 graduate of Brownwood High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Howard Payne University and completed his graduate studies at Southwest Texas State University. In 1947, he married Ronda Cox of Brownwood.  Together they had two beautiful daughters.

Charlie proudly served the United States Navy in World War II in the Southwest Pacific, Asia and European Theaters. He then spent the next 44 years in Texas public schools as a teacher principal, and business manager. He worked in Johnson City, Gatesville, Port Lavaca and then spent eighteen years in the Brownwood Independent School District where he retired. He was a faithful member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and a very proud “Pawie” to his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Stephen J. Heather.

Charles is survived by two daughters Nancy Spears and her husband Wayne of Chuluota, Florida and Holly Smith and husband Jeff of Arlington, four grandchildren Kelly McLean and husband Tim, Lesley Kristeff and husband Andre, Patrick Smith and Heather Smith and one great-grandson, Elijah, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
